中国冶金地质总局成立于1952年，隶属国务院国资委，是中央管理的地质勘查单位，主要从事固体矿产地质勘查、研究、开发、服务，超硬材料生产及机械装备制造。
China Metallurgical Geology Bureau (CMGB) was established in 1952 as a geological exploration entity directly affiliated with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. It mainly specializes in geological exploration, research, development and service of solid mineral resources, production of super hard materials and manufacturing of machinery and equipment.
成立以来，共探明矿产资源80余种，发现和勘查中型以上矿床近600个，累计提交的铁矿、锰矿、金矿储量分别占新中国探明总储量的52%、38%和24%.  
Since its foundation, CMGB has identified more than 80 types of mineral resources, discovered and explored nearly 600 mineral deposits of medium size and above. Estimated reserves of iron ore, manganese ore and gold ore by CMGB account respectively for 52%, 38% and 24% of China’s total measured reserves.
先后荣获中央企业“管理进步企业奖”全国地质勘查功勋单位、地质勘查行业先进集体、十大地质找矿成果（科技进展）奖、危机矿山接替资源勘查特别贡献奖、国家火炬计划重点高新技术企业，以及李四光地质科学奖、五一劳动奖章等多项国家级荣誉。
CMGB has successfully won many state-level awards, including the “Advanced Management Enterprise Award”, national geological exploration honorable entity, Pioneer Entity in Geological Exploration Industry, Top 10 Geological Exploration Achievements (Technological Development), the Award for Special Contributions to Explorations for Substitute Resource of Near-exhausted Mine, National Torch Plan Key Hi-tech Enterprise, Li Siguang Award of Geological Science and May 1st Labor Medal.
下属11个局院（中心）、6个控股公司，159个三级及四级企事业单位，驻地分布在全国17个省、自治区和直辖市。
It has eleven bureaus and institutes (academies and centers), six holding companies and 159 third- and four-tier subsidiaries, including enterprises and public institutions which are distributed throughout 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China.
